S1 ENHANCEMENTS GUIDE

SwingTrader ULTRA is a suite of two SA TOP40 Index mechanical trading strategies. They are called S1 and S2 in a tip-of-the-hat to the famous Richard Dennis and his 1970's "Turtle Traders" that used two systems by the same name to generate millions of dollars in profit using traders with no prior experience.

The systems generate live BUY and SELL signals for customers via SMS and have a web site where clients can go and view each systems' live real-time trading status, equity curve (profits/losses) and historic trade performance.  Essentially clients trade "alongside" the ULTRA S1 and S2 "robots", making profits/losses as the robots do.

The performance of the two systems since March 2009 with a R50,000 starting account are shown below as at 1 May 2012:(click to enlarge)

Professional traders will trade both S1 and S2 systems concurrently (in parrallel) but beginners to index swingtrading or ULTRA are recommened to start with the "more gentle" S2 system. In addition, we recently introduced new real-time profit targets for S2 (discussed in the "S2/RT addendum") that allow traders to program in automatic sell signals into the platform, making S2 more technically advanced than S1.

S1 was launched in 2011 and went BETA with 50 customers for 6 months. We then took on another 50 customers for BETA2 until March 2012 at which point we launched S2 which went into BETA3 with the existing 100 S1 clients. We are now in BETA4 intake with a further 50 positions open. As of 1 June 2012 there are 15 positions still available.

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN ULTRA SUBSCRIPTION
ULTRA S1 & S2 are sold together and will cost R1,250 per month to subscribe to (R850 per month if you have a R454 per month or R4,899 per annum PowerStocks PRO subscription.) Given S1 generates on average R10,000 per month of profit per R100,000 this means you will need trading accounts of above R50,000 starting value to make it worth your while (remember you do not put more than 10% of this at risk of total loss at any time)

Trading accounts must be opened with SharenetCFD's with which to trade the system. This is non-negotiable, as ULTRA has been purpose built for the IG-Markets TOP40 Index CFD. The profit targets, limits and stops displayed by the ULTRA Live web trader will be meaningless to you if you are trading other instruments. The trading account and platform costs nothing per month to run as you will be trading with it.

To apply to go onto the waiting list for the next batch of ULTRA users, email research@powerstocks.co.za with "ULTRA APPLICATION REQUEST" in the message header.

A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF ULTRA S1
SwingTrader ULTRA is a super-charged version of the popular PowerStocks Research SwingTrader-III short-term trading system that was used by our clients to trade long-only trades on the ALSI index (either via SATRIX40 ETF’s, CFD’s, TOPI warrants or TOP40 index futures.) in the 2002 to 2008 bull market.

Since March 2009, and with a R40, 000 starting account, ULTRA generated over R484,660 in net profits across 39 long and 37 short trades (average 1 trade every 14 days.) Win rates on the long trades were 77% with a 5-to-1 gain/loss ratio and win rates on the short trades were 67% with a 3-to-1 gain/loss ratio (Gain/Loss is how many Rands you gain for every Rand you lose.)  Net profit from the long trades was R209,090 whilst net profit from the short trades amounted to R278,570.

The system was vested (“in”) the market for 88% of the time, sitting in cash for 12% of the time.
For every trade, only a fraction of the total trading capital was exposed to risk of complete loss, the fraction starting at 16% on the first trade and having reduced down to 2% in recent time (the system trades 5 micro-contracts on the long trades and 10 micro-contracts on the short trades.)

ULTRA uses standard SwingTrader-III “go long” signals to open long trades, but the following new features are incorporated:

1. Two additional exit signals in addition to the standard SwingTrader-III exit signal. These exit signals provide superior returns whist reducing vested long-trade exposure from 70% to 50%, resulting in far superior risk-adjusted returns for the long trades.

2. Shorting strategies initiated by the above exits with a maximum 2% underlying ungeared index risk per unit traded (half that of the long trades!). The shorting strategies have their own built-in exits (short covering rules) to allow them to avoid short-cover rallies.

3. An overbought/oversold indicator to allow for pyramid trades (adding to positions) and opportunities to take profits off the table at high risk periods as well as identify high probability long trades.

4. Position sizing rules to ensure equitable long and short trade risk metrics (4%) and to ensure only a fraction of trading capital is at risk at any time

5. Six times the returns (TRI) of SwingTrader-III over the last 2 years

6. Win rate of 76.92% (longs) as opposed to 65% with old longs-only system

7. Gain/Loss ratio for long trades improves from 2:1 to an impressive 4:1

8. Four categories of long trades and 3 categories of short trades each with their own actuarial tables to allow the trader to asses risk and allow the system to size the appropriate number of contracts matched to the statistical confidence of the trade.

9. Live intra-day signalling chart with live SMS and email alerts for all actionable signals.

ULTRA is much more active than the old SwingTrader. Since March 2009 the old system delivered 31 trades whereas ULTRA executed 76 trades. Despite its higher returns and higher activity, ULTRA does not expose you to more risk, but LESS than the older system.

For a 25-page in-depth discussion around the performance, use and operation of SwingTrader ULTRA, you can download the operators guide, and we will not cover it further on the web site. In July 2011 we concluded a 6-month BETA program with 100 live customers and introduced a seperate profit taking strategy to allow traders to bank more gains intra-trade. This new feature is documented in the "ULTRA+" improvements document, also available at the top of this page for viewing.
